No more meat for me....

In a way I consider myself lucky.  Since young, I never really enjoyed any type of meat.

After being diagnosed with cancer, I read that I have to make sure my body is not acidic as cancer thrives in acidic environment. Meat is acidic.  So naturally, this is the one thing to avoid.

When I was going through chemotherapy, doctors and nurses' advise to me was I can eat anything I want, as I need the energy to fight this.  This is true, I do need the energy but this is also conflicted from what I know my body needs.

I know I can get the energy from a lot of sources other than meat, so I embarked on the no-meat diet from there on.  I doubled up vegetables and had some fish.

The menu was simple in the beginning, as chemo killed my taste buds.  The only prominent taste that I could tolerate was sour.  It's not advisable to eat out, so I cooked myself mostly.

Having a typical Asian taste buds, my menu was like this:

  • Brown Rice Porridge - boiled with a small piece of ginger, lemongrass, garlic, some carrots & potatoes.  For taste, I stir-fried some ikan bilis and onions, and squeeze lemon on it.  When I didn't any energy to even chew, this was my staple food.
  • Ikan Rebus Asam Pedas - this is so simple but yet so tasty.  I simply blended some red chilies with onions & garlic, boiled it with galangal, lemongrass, daun kesum and lemon juice.  Add some stevia leaves for a tinge of sweetness.  If you can't take spicy much, reduce the chillies.
  • Green Curry - I began to crave for more taste after awhile.  And I love Thai Food.  Unfortunately store brought green curry paste all contain lots of sugar and some additives.  That's when I decided to make my own green curry paste.  It's actually easy.  I cooked it with lots of vegetables and added some fish.  Everyone at home loved it!
  • Tomyam - same thing, I made my own tomyam paste and cooked it with lots of vegetables.  For hubby, I added prawns and for me, some fish.  After awhile, just vegetables is good enough for me.
  • Chickpea Miso Stew - this has become my comfort food.  So easy to make and yet so tasty.  It has all the powerfood in it - chickpeas, carrots, potatoes, celery, tomatoes.
  • Nasi Goreng Petai - Nasi goreng can be with anything.  I usually just made it with different kinds of vegetables.  Brown rice, naturally.  But my favourite is with Petai (stinky beans).  Turns out petai is a good agent to kill cancer.
  • Kimchi Ramen - Lots of vegetables, with kimchi and some miso for extra taste, all these with organic ramen noodles.  Very yummy!

There are more of course, which I will share separately.
